Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian gentleman's library bookcase dates from the 19th century and is made of mahogany with glass and brass. The warm brown timber features flame mahogany panels on the lower doors and gothic arch astragal glazing bars across the upper glass doors. Additional details include a moulded cornice and turned feet. The bookcase stands 239 cm high, 104 cm wide and 40 cm deep. Suitable for use in a home today, this piece provides display storage in a living room, study or library. The upper section contains nine glazed panes behind each door, while the lower cabinet contains two solid panelled doors. The sturdy construction accommodates books, decorative objects or tableware in traditional or transitional interior settings.

A 19th-century glazed bookcase typically features a two-part construction comprising an upper section with glass-fronted doors for book display and a lower cupboard base for concealed storage. These pieces were manufactured predominantly in mahogany or walnut during the Regency and Victorian eras to furnish private home libraries.

19th-century bookcases were primarily constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, frequently utilising highly figured flame mahogany on lower cabinet doors. Internal shelf supports often incorporated timber saw-tooth ratchets, while original glass doors featured handmade crown or cylinder glass secured by timber astragal mouldings.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand construction, including hand-dovetailed drawer joints, secondary timber backboards made of pine or oak, and minor surface irregularities in historic glass panes. Look for original brass lock mechanisms, authentic wear on drawer runners, and natural patination along polished surfaces.

Integrate a glazed bookcase into modern spaces by balancing books with curated ceramic objects, contemporary glassware, or sculptural items across the shelves. Utilising the cabinet as a china display in a dining room or placing it against a neutral wall creates a grounding focal point.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Avoid placing mahogany furniture in direct sunlight or adjacent to heat sources, as extreme temperature changes can dry out veneers and cause timber movement.
