This pair of 19th-century cabinet plates stems from the Rococo Revival style, produced in Germany around 1860 within the workshop of Helena Wolfsohn. The hard-paste porcelain construction features a white glaze enriched with polychrome hand-painted pastoral scenes depicting uniformed soldiers in a landscape. Elaborate gilt scrollwork, pink and multi-coloured floral cartouches, and an octagonal rim decorate the surfaces. The reverse of each item retains collector labels and an Augustus Rex-type mark in blue. Measuring 24 cm high, 24 cm wide, and 3.2 cm deep, these display pieces exhibit very good condition without chips, cracks, or restoration. Suitable for display in a formal dining room or drawing room setting, the plates sit attractively upon a sideboard top or within a glass-fronted cabinet. The intricate gilt embellishments and romantic military scenes offer a decorative focal point that complements traditional interiors. Collectors of nineteenth-century European ceramics can incorporate these octagonal plates into existing cabinet displays to introduce period pattern and colour. The items require careful handling during placement and routine dusting to maintain the integrity of the painted glaze and gilded borders.

Helena Wolfsohn was a prominent Dresden studio operating in the nineteenth century, famed for decorating fine porcelain in the Rococo Revival style, often featuring romantic pastoral scenes and elaborate gilding inspired by earlier eighteenth-century designs.

These decorative pieces were crafted from fine hard-paste porcelain blanks, fired at high temperatures, and subsequently decorated by hand with overglaze enamels and intricate gold leaf gilding.

Authentic Helena Wolfsohn pieces frequently feature hand-painted romantic figures or floral motifs, heavy gilt scrollwork, and studio markings on the underside, such as the Augustus Rex mark or studio trade logos.

Decorative plates can be displayed on brass plate stands within a glass-fronted cabinet, mounted on a feature wall using wire hangers, or arranged along a sideboard top to add historic detail.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemical detergents, or soaking in water, as these methods can degrade delicate overglaze enamelling and surface gilding.
