Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English Edwardian table lamp, dating to 1900, follows the style associated with W.A.S. Benson. The object is constructed from solid brass with a warm metallic golden colour and a polished finish. It stands upon three splayed tripod legs with rounded flat feet, supporting a central stem featuring turned brass details, a baluster column, and an unusual swirl decoration to the central knop. A standard light bulb fitting sits at the top of the lamp, accompanied by a flexible brown twisted fabric cord emerging from the lower body. The piece stands at 44 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 17 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this lamp suits placement on an office desk, a writing table, or a sideboard within a traditional study or a gentleman's library. The compact footprint allows it to sit comfortably on narrower surfaces while providing directional task or accent illumination. The newly rewired electrical setup ensures the lamp is ready for daily use in the home.

FAQs

Benson-style lighting, inspired by designer W.A.S. Benson during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, is characterised by functional brass or copper metalwork, organic curves, and tripod or baluster bases that accommodated early domestic electricity.

Edwardian table lamps were predominantly constructed from solid brass, copper, and bronze, often combined with turned wooden accents or silk fabric shades to complement early electrical fittings.

Authentic pieces feature spun or cast brass construction, visible joining mechanisms, hand-turned decorative spindles, and appropriate age-related patination or minor surface oxidisation.

An Edwardian brass lamp acts as a warm accent on a modern dark wood desk, side table, or shelving unit, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary minimalist surroundings.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip the natural patina; ensure all electrical rewiring is checked by a qualified electrician.
