Description

A beautiful antique sapphire and mine diamond 15ct gold five stone ring. The ring dates from the late 19th century with natural sapphires and diamonds. The mine cuts are very bright S1 and I well matched and sparkly, the sapphires are natural cushion cuts and Royal blue colour the 15ct gold is very light in tone so alloyed with silver or zinc.

One of the key charms of 15ct gold jewellery lies in its uniqueness and rarity. While it was popular during its heyday, the production of 15ct gold pieces gradually declined, making them highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs today. You know that your piece is an antique if it is 15ct gold as they ceased production in the 1930s. In 1932, significant changes were implemented within the jewellery and metalworking industry, leading to a reformation of standardized hallmarking and gold purity. As a result of these changes, the familiar purities that we recognize and shop with today emerged, including 9ct gold, 14ct gold, 18ct gold, and 22ct gold. Unfortunately, 15ct gold was phased out during this reform, making it a rarity in contemporary jewellery production. size M or 6 1/4

Edwardian jewellery, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by delicate, light designs often utilising platinum and yellow gold set with diamonds and vibrant gemstones like sapphires.

Jewellers of this era frequently employed gold, particularly 15ct, alongside platinum settings to maximise the brilliance of old-cut diamonds and coloured stones.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut stones such as old mine cuts or transitional cuts, hand-carved or pierced settings, and occasionally British hallmarks indicating the metal purity and assay office.

Antique rings can be worn as standalone statement pieces, stacked with contemporary plain bands for contrast, or paired with minimalist attire to let the historic craftsmanship stand out.

Store antique pieces separately in soft pouches to prevent scratching, avoid exposing them to harsh ultrasonic cleaners or chemicals, and have the settings inspected periodically by a professional jeweller.
