This set of four nineteenth-century Scottish provincial mustard spoons originates from the maker Andrew Davidson of Arbroath, carrying Edinburgh hallmarks for 1842. Formed from sterling silver with a reflective silver finish, the items exhibit a fiddle pattern stem leading to an oval condiment bowl. Each handle terminal features an engraved family crest alongside clear, legible hallmarks. Used condition is evident across the set while the components remain sound. The dimensions measure 1 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Display these traditional condiment spoons on a dining table, dresser, or sideboard top during formal dinner parties and family gatherings. The tableware fits neatly into a traditional cutlery service tray or complements a silver collection on open shelving. Everyday service of mustards, preserves, and relishes at breakfast or evening meals suits the scale of each piece. Maintenance requires gentle cleaning with a specialist silver cloth to preserve the metallic shine.

Scottish provincial silver refers to silver produced outside the main assay offices of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Silversmiths working in towns across Scotland struck their own marks, creating distinctive pieces tailored to local regional demand from the late eighteenth to nineteenth centuries.

Mustard spoons of this era were forged from sterling silver, formed through hand-hammering and hand-casting techniques. The metal was tested for purity and struck with town or maker marks to verify quality.

Authentic pieces display distinct maker and town marks stamped into the stem or reverse of the handle. Regional items often lack standard crown or lion passants, carrying town crest symbols and maker initials instead.

Condiment spoons can be paired with contemporary glass or ceramic condiment pots to add historical texture to dinner settings. They also function as decorative objects displayed on trays or within dining room sideboards.

Antique silver should be washed gently in warm soapy water and dried thoroughly with a soft cloth. Tarnish can be reduced using specialist non-abrasive silver polishes applied sparingly, avoiding aggressive chemical dips.
