Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Regency period candlesticks belongs to the Regency era around 1800 and is constructed from Sheffield plate, silver, and copper. The pieces present a polished silver colour with urn sconces, telescopic columns, and stepped circular bases featuring gadrooned borders. The surface displays reflective metallic finishes with decorative turned column sections and textured beaded mouldings around the bases and shafts. Measuring 23 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm deep, these items stand at a practical size for placement on a dining table centre or sideboard. They suit a formal dining room or a traditional living space as functional table accessories or decorative accents.

FAQs

Telescopic Sheffield plated candlesticks are table lighting fixtures produced during the early nineteenth century featuring an internal friction-fit mechanism that allows the shaft to extend or retract to vary the candle height.

Sheffield plate was created by fusing a layer of sterling silver over a thicker copper ingot before rolling it into sheets, which were then raised, die-struck, or turned to create decorative objects with lead-filled weighted bases for stability.

Authentic items often feature subtle copper exposure or bleeding at high points of wear, invisible seams along the column, die-struck gadrooned borders, and a distinct soft lustre compared to later electroplated nickel silver.

These pieces can be placed as a symmetric pair on a dining table centrepiece, arranged on a sideboard top alongside modern glassware, or displayed on a fireplace mantelpiece to add metallic texture to neutral colour schemes.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish formulated for antique plate, taking care not to rub excessively on edges where silver plating is thinnest, and dry thoroughly to prevent oxidisation.
