Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A set of four early 19th-century Regency silver-plated chamber sticks provides practical illumination in a traditional home, suitable for placement on a sideboard top. Each piece exhibits a circular drip pan with a gadrooned rim, a tapering socket featuring a detachable sconce, and a ring handle with a thumbpiece. A conical extinguishing snuffer sits alongside the handle, adorned with an engraved family crest. The silver-plated finish reflects light across the polished surface. Measuring 12 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, these chamber sticks complement a dining room or drawing room setting. The set combines functional design with classical decorative motifs typical of the period.

FAQs

A chamberstick is a low candlestick featuring a wide tray base and a side handle, originally used to illuminate hallways and bedrooms while being carried through a house.

During the early nineteenth century, chambersticks were predominantly made from sterling silver, Sheffield plate, electroplated nickel silver, or cast brass.

Authentic period pieces typically feature hand-chased decorative edging such as gadrooning, slots on the handle for a matching conical snuffer, and subtle wear showing copper or base metal beneath the silver layer.

These items can be arranged along a dining table, displayed on a fireplace mantelpiece, or styled on a sideboard alongside framed artwork to introduce classic metallic highlights.

Wipe the surfaces with a soft, dry cotton cloth and use specialised silver polish sparingly to prevent stripping the thin layer of silver plating over time.
