Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Sheraton Revival writing desk originates from 1910 and displays a warm brown mahogany timber construction enriched with satinwood inlay and crossbanding. The rectangular top incorporates a tooled red leather writing surface alongside a pair of curved-front stationery boxes fitted with small drawers, brass gallery rails, and brass drop handles. Below the writing area sit two full-width frieze drawers accented with brass key escutcheons and original brass swan-neck handles. The whole structure is raised on slender tapered square legs terminating in brass castors. Measuring 93 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 53 cm deep, the desk offers practical workspace and storage suited to a study, home office, or gentleman's library. The compact proportions and finished back allow placement against a wall or freestanding within a period-inspired interior.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, a Bonheur du Jour is a light writing table typically featuring a flat surface backed by a small raised cabinet or superstructure with drawers and stationery compartments.

These writing desks were commonly constructed from solid mahogany or oak frameworks, featuring decorative satinwood inlay, brass galleries, and leather writing inserts.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, cast brass hardware, natural timber grain variations, and precise satinwood crossbanding along drawer fronts and table tops.

Position the desk against a feature wall or near a window in a home office or living area to serve as a functional workspace that balances modern minimalism with classic timber tones.

Dust regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, apply high-grade beeswax twice a year along the grain, and avoid direct sunlight or radiators to prevent veneer lifting and timber discolouration.
