Tea caddy spoons were specifically designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to measure dry tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, reflecting the high value of tea at the time.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as hand-stamping, piercing, and bright-cut engraving by regional and metropolitan silversmiths.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks, maker marks, regional town marks, and the characteristic wear patterns and weight associated with period silver craftsmanship.

Antique silver can be showcased within glass-fronted cabinets, displayed on silver trays, or mounted in shadow boxes to highlight craftsmanship while protecting the metal.

Preservation requires minimal cleaning with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary, avoiding harsh dips that can strip historical patina.
