Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The French Hunt style, popular during the late 19th century, is characterised by heavy oak construction, intricate hand-carved motifs referencing game, foliage, and rural life, and often incorporates architectural elements inspired by earlier Renaissance periods.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid European oak, chosen for its strength and ability to hold deep, detailed hand-carvings, often complemented by hand-blown window glass and forged iron or brass hardware.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut joinery such as dovetails, the presence of traditional tool marks, uniform wood ageing and oxidisation, and construction methods consistent with late 19th-century cabinet making rather than modern machine production.

Balancing the visual weight of dark, ornate wood can be achieved by pairing the piece against neutral or light-textured walls, incorporating interior cabinet lighting, and styling shelves with a mix of books and minimalist ceramics to bridge traditional and modern aesthetics.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent wood drying, and periodically applying a high-quality beeswax polish while avoiding silicone-based commercial sprays.
