Victorian silver spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and is characterised by eclectic revivals of historic styles, heavy ornamentation, and highly detailed hand engraving.

Antique hip flasks were traditionally crafted from solid sterling silver or pewter, often featuring hand-chased or engraved body panels, threaded screw caps with cork or rubber seals, and sometimes leather-wrapped upper bodies.

Authentic pieces bear British hallmarks stamped directly into the metal, usually including a makers mark, a standard mark indicating sterling silver purity, a town mark for the assay office, and a date letter signifying the year of assay.

An antique silver flask can be displayed as a decorative tabletop object on a stack of books, styled within a gentlemans study, or curated inside a glass-fronted cabinet alongside other collectable metalware.

Preserve antique silver by gently cleaning it with a non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away desirable patination, and storing it in a low-humidity environment.
