This Art Deco hip flask originates from 1940 and is made from sterling silver with a reflective silver colour. The object has a gently curved body designed to sit flush against the pocket, complete with a knurled collar and a hinged bayonet cap with a visible hinge pin. The upper section of the body displays fine engine-turned geometric engraving, while the lower section has a plain polished finish. The flask stands 13 cm high, 7.8 cm wide and 2.3 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece sits neatly on top of a sideboard in a living room, study or dining room as a decorative bar accessory. It also functions as a portable container for spirits during outdoor excursions or sporting events.

Art Deco hip flasks from the 1920s and 1930s are characterised by clean geometric lines, streamlined curved profiles designed to fit comfortably in a coat pocket, and decorative engine-turned surface patterns.

These flasks were typically crafted from solid sterling silver or high-grade silver plate, frequently decorated using guilloche or engine-turning machines to produce precise geometric textures and fitted with hinged bayonet mechanism caps.

Authenticity is verified by examining stamped silver hallmarks indicating the maker, purity, town of origin, and date letter, alongside assessing the precision of the engine-turning work and the quality of the hinged mechanism.

An antique silver flask works well as a decorative accent placed on a bar cart, styled atop a tray on a dining room sideboard top, or displayed alongside books in a study shelf setting.

Polishing the exterior with a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver cream preserves the lustre without removing aged patination, while internal cleaning requires warm water rinsing without harsh chemicals.
