Victorian silver encompasses a broad range of designs produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, moving from heavily ornamented revival styles to more refined, plain surfaces towards the end of the 19th century.

Authentic period frames typically feature a thin sheet of sterling silver mounted over a wooden or gesso core, backed with velvet or leather and supported by a hinged easel stand.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically indicate the standard of silver, the assay office, the makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

An antique silver frame adds a reflective metallic accent to contemporary spaces and works effectively when displayed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables alongside modern photography or art.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina, avoiding harsh liquid dips that can strip away original highlights and hallmarks.
