The William and Mary style, prevalent in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, is characterised by restrained classical proportions, tapered cylindrical bodies, and minimalist decoration, often reinterpreted in later revival periods.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from sterling silver using hand-raising or spinning techniques, featuring fitted wooden handles insulated with sockets and hinged conical lids.

Authentic pieces feature clear hallmarks stamped on the base or body, indicating the makers mark, assay office, purity standard, and date letter, alongside appropriate age-related surface wear.

They can be displayed on a sideboard or within a glazed cabinet to add reflective metallic texture and a sense of historical contrast to modern minimalist spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive proprietary silver polish and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh dips that can strip away desirable patination.
