This antique Afghan village carpet exemplifies Turkmen tribal style from the 1920 period, constructed from hand-knotted wool in a deep crimson shade with dark indigo blue motifs. The pile shows slight even wear across its surface, while the design incorporates three rows of seven large octagonal gul medallions arranged in a repeating grid composition upon the field, framed by elaborate geometric border bands along the edges and fringed ends. Measuring 336 cm high by 226 cm wide and 1 cm deep, the carpet provides a useful room size suitable for heavy domestic floor use in a gentleman's library or living space. Woven by settled Ersari weavers in Northern Afghanistan, it brings traditional warmth and texture to interior settings when placed on the floor.

Ersari Turkmen carpets originate from Central Asia and are distinguished by their bold geometric motifs, particularly octagonal gul designs, arranged in repeating grids across deep crimson or madder red fields.

These carpets are crafted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and foundation, coloured with natural plant and mineral dyes to ensure lasting depth of tone.

Authentic pieces feature hand-tied knots visible on the reverse, subtle natural dye variations known as abrash, and pliable wool foundations rather than rigid modern backings.

A deep red tribal carpet anchors neutral living areas, pairing seamlessly with minimalist timber furniture, dark leather seating, or mid-century decorative elements.

Vacuum gently without a rotating beater bar, rotate the carpet periodically to distribute foot traffic evenly, and treat liquid spills immediately by blotting with clean, dry cotton cloths.
