Victorian silver and agate pieces, often associated with Scottish pebble jewellery popularised by Queen Victoria, feature locally sourced stones set into intricately engraved silver frameworks.

These items typically incorporate sterling silver or silver-gilt combined with natural chalcedony minerals such as banded grey, blue, or red agates, often featuring hand-engraved foliate or geometric detailing.

Authenticity is generally identified through period-appropriate construction methods, such as integrated C-clasps, hinged pin stems extending beyond the safety catch, and traditional hand-cut stones rather than synthetic substitutes.

An antique brooch can be worn fastened to the lapel of a tailored blazer, securing a chunky knit scarf, or pinned to the neckline of a minimalist dress to add historic character.

Store these pieces in a dry, tarnish-resistant pouch away from direct sunlight, and clean them gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage organic stones and patinated silver.
