This Victorian silver-plated two-handled soup tureen and punch bowl originates from the nineteenth century, produced by Daniel and Arter of Birmingham. The piece is made of electroplated nickel silver with a polished silver finish, set upon a circular pedestal base. The design includes dual side handles, a domed lid with a spherical finial, and a matching serving ladle resting in a dedicated lid slot. Signs of age appear as subtle surface reflections and gentle antique wear across the polished metal body, while the top surface displays visible circular tool rings and a small aperture for the utensil. Standing 21.5 cm in height with a diameter of 22 cm, the bowl rests upon a textured green leather surface with decorative border tooling. Suitable for placement on a dining room sideboard or a living room console table, the tureen serves as a functional serving vessel for formal dinners or as an accent piece in traditional English Country House interiors. The structure accommodates warm soups, punch, or seasonal beverages during gatherings, while the lid keeps contents covered between servings. The compact footprint allows placement on side tables or display cabinets where silver tableware enhances the room layout.

Covered tureens became prominent formal dining accents during the 19th century, manufactured extensively in British metalworking centres like Birmingham. Electroplating techniques allowed makers to produce ornate table hollowware with nickel silver bases coated in fine silver.

These items typically feature a base alloy such as electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or brass, which is coated with a surface layer of pure silver through electrolysis.

Authentic pieces produced by Daniel & Arter of Birmingham generally feature makers stamps such as D&A, Nevada Silver, or specific trade mark symbols impressed onto the underside of the vessel base.

Position the tureen as a central decorative object on a dining table or sideboard, or utilise it without the lid as a vessel for floral arrangements and seasonal greenery.

Clean silver plate using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish formulations, avoiding abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that can wear down the outer silver plating.
