This pair of eighteenth-century Georgian candlesticks exhibits a traditional baluster form fashioned from paktong metal with a bright silver finish. Each piece displays turned mouldings along the tapering stem, a circular stepped base, and a flared sconce at the top. The metal surfaces show minor dents along the base edges alongside a simple engraved decorative border around the rims and foot. The candlesticks measure 19 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. These metal items suit placement on a dining table centre or a side table within a traditional interior setting. One inside ejector part is missing from the set.

FAQs

Paktong is an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc imported from China to Western Europe during the 18th century as an alternative to silver.

These items were cast in sections and finished on a lathe, resulting in dense metal construction with turned mouldings and solid bases.

Authentic pieces display a silvery appearance with a subtle yellowish tint, lacking silver plating layers or base-metal exposure underneath.

Set on a mantelpiece or a dining table centre, cast metal candlesticks provide architectural form and texture alongside modern ceramics or glass.

Clean the surface using warm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that could strip the historical patina.
