Victorian silverware spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by eclectic revivals of historic styles, ornate ornamentation, and meticulous craftsmanship during the height of the British Empire.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, marked with assay office symbols, date letters, and makers marks, sometimes featuring gilded interiors known as vermeil.

Authentic pieces bear hallmark stamps including a lion passant for sterling standard, a city mark for the assay office, a date letter, and the silversmiths punch, alongside appropriate age-related surface wear.

Antique silver items add historical texture and reflective metallic highlights when displayed within glass cabinets, styled on dining tables, or integrated into curated tabletop collections.

Preservation requires minimal cleaning with specialised non-abrasive silver cloths to maintain patination, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away historic surface characteristics.
