Description

A charming Edwardian mahogany piano stool featuring a curved wraparound back rail surrounding a finely upholstered seat. The seat lifts to reveal a generous internal storage compartment, all elegantly raised on tapered legs with classic spade feet and united by an attractive H-stretcher.

Graceful and practical in equal measure — ideal as a piano stool, dressing table seat or hallway accent.

Presented in very good condition. Structurally sound, with only light surface wear and a few minor traces of long-dormant woodworm to the rear leg (fully treated). There is no mechanism to hold the seat open.

English, circa 1910.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, often lighter in scale and colour than Victorian pieces, frequently draws inspiration from earlier 18th-century designs like Sheraton and Chippendale.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, featuring upholstered drop-in seats and internal wooden compartments designed for sheet music storage.

Authenticity is determined by traditional joinery methods, such as dovetail construction in the storage compartment, period-appropriate hardware, and natural timber ageing.

This versatile piece functions effectively as a piano seat, a small vanity stool, or an accent chair in a living room, combining practical storage with classic aesthetic appeal.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying a quality beeswax periodically to nourish the wood and preserve the polished finish.
