This pair of French silver-plated wine coasters dates from the 1920 period. The circular items are finished in silver with a reflective metallic sheen, displaying a maker's mark stamped underneath, raised sides mounted with leaves and beads, and an embossed sun burst decoration in the fluted central well. The outer rims show a detailed pattern, and the surfaces retain their original plating with virtually no wear. Measuring 15 cm in diameter, the coasters are suited for display on a sideboard top or dining table in a living room, dining room, or bar area to hold wine bottles during meals or gatherings.

Wine coasters, also known as bottle slides, were introduced in the eighteenth century to protect polished wooden dining tables from scratches and condensation, allowing bottles to be slid across the table during formal dining.

High-quality French wine coasters from the early twentieth century are typically crafted from base metal alloys, such as brass or nickel silver, electroplated with a silver layer and featuring machine-turned or cast details.

Authentic pieces feature specific Christofle maker marks, including a balance scale or knight chess piece emblem alongside maker stamps and numeric weight markers indicating the silver plating standards.

Position them on a contemporary sideboard, bar cart, or dining table to hold wine bottles, decanters, or pillar candles, blending historic metalwork with contemporary entertaining spaces.

Clean gentle surfaces using a soft cotton cloth and non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid immersion in water or the use of harsh chemical dip solutions that compromise electroplated finishes.
