Art Deco jewellery, prominent from 1920 to 1935, is characterised by geometric precision, symmetrical patterns, clean lines, and a heavy influence of industrial machinery and avant-garde art movements.

Pieces from this period frequently utilised platinum settings combined with yellow gold backs, accented by calibration-cut coloured gemstones and old European or transitional cut diamonds.

Authenticity is typically verified by hand-cut gemstones unique to the period, specific claw or millegrain setting techniques, appropriate metal hallmarks, and signs of age-related wear on the precious metals.

They should be stored individually in a lined jewellery box to prevent scratching, and cleaned gently using warm soapy water and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding harsh ultrasonic cleaners which can damage treated stones.

Quality is assessed through the vibrancy of the blue hue, transparency, absence of severe inclusions, and the precision of the gemstones facets relative to period cutting styles.
