FAQs

Edwardian metalware typically features graceful proportions, refined ornamentation, and influences from earlier historical periods such as the Georgian and Rococo revivals, often incorporating delicate floral and scroll motifs.

These pieces were commonly manufactured using a base metal such as copper, brass, or nickel silver, which was then coated with a layer of pure silver using electroplating techniques introduced during the 19th century.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining manufacturer hallmarks, makers marks, or specific trade abbreviations stamped onto the underside or rim, alongside signs of genuine age such as light surface wear and natural oxidisation.

An antique tray can be utilised as a reflective centrepiece on a coffee table or sideboard, styled with glassware, candles, or botanical elements to create a contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalist spaces.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional, gentle cleaning using a non-abrasive silver polish specifically formulated for plated items, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip the plating.
