A quaich is a traditional Scottish drinking vessel characterized by its shallow bowl and two opposing handles, historically used for welcoming guests or ceremonial toasts.

Traditional quaichs were crafted from wood, often with intricate silver mounts added later, while Victorian interpretations frequently combined clear crystal or glass bodies with hallmarked sterling silver rims and lugs.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the metal for genuine hallmarks indicating the maker, assay office, and year of production, alongside observing the hand-cut nature and wear patterns of the glass.

This item functions effectively as a decorative accent on a sideboard or coffee table, reflecting light through the glass while adding a touch of traditional heritage to contemporary spaces.

Clean the piece using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, drying the crystal immediately with a lint-free cloth and polishing the silver components gently with a specialised non-abrasive cloth.
