The Edwardian period, spanning from 1901 to 1910, often featured lighter, more graceful designs influenced by neoclassical styles, alongside revivals of rococo and art nouveau motifs.

Edwardian cream jugs were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, typically bearing a fineness mark of 925, and frequently featured an interior parcel-gilt finish to protect the metal from the acidic content of dairy.

Authentic pieces are identified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include the makers mark, the standard mark for sterling silver, the town assay office mark, and a date letter specific to the year of assay.

An antique silver cream jug can be repurposed as a small vase for short floral arrangements or displayed on an open shelving unit to introduce reflective metallic texture and historical contrast to a contemporary space.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive, high-quality silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away desirable patina and damage delicate chased details.
