A Victorian silver salver is a flat, circular serving tray typically raised on feet, used during the 19th century for serving drinks, calling cards, or food in formal households.

Traditional Victorian salvers are crafted from sterling silver or silver plate over a base metal such as copper or Britannia metal, often featuring cast or applied decorative borders.

Authentic pieces can be identified by hallmarks stamped into the metal, which indicate the assay office, maker, date letter, and silver standard, alongside traditional hand-engraving and patination consistent with the period.

An antique silver salver can be used as a reflective centrepiece on a coffee table or sideboard, styled with pillar candles, glassware, or small decorative objects to create textural contrast.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to protect the patina and engravings, and stored in a low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight.
