This early 19th-century Anglo-Dutch bureau showcases a Baroque style crafted from burr walnut and walnut veneer with a warm brown colour and high-gloss finish. The piece features a sloped fall-front fitted with a keyhole escutcheon and a hanging tassel decoration, positioned above a bombe-shaped arrangement of four serpentine drawers with brass drop handles and decorative backplates. The serpentine moulding follows the contours of the drawer fronts, which are flanked by shaped sides and supported on carved claw feet. The burr veneer displays prominent figuring and cross-banding throughout. Measuring 102 cm high, 107 cm wide and 89 cm deep, this writing desk provides a functional workspace and storage solution. It is suited for placement in a study, home office, or living room as a practical surface for writing and administrative tasks while adding period character to an interior.

A slant-front writing bureau is a piece of case furniture featuring a angled hinged fall-front lid that opens to reveal a fitted writing interior, positioned above a chest of drawers.

Eighteenth-century bureaus were commonly constructed using solid woods such as oak and pine for the carcass, overlaid with decorative veneers including burr walnut or mahogany, and fitted with cast brass handles.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, authentic cast brass keyplates with natural oxidisation, and original burr wood grain variations.

An antique bureau functions well as a compact home workstation or hallway statement piece, pairing dark figure-grained timber alongside modern desk lamps and minimalist wall art.

Care for burr walnut veneer by keeping the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and applying beeswax polish annually along the natural grain.
