The William IV period (1830-1837) bridges the Georgian and Victorian eras, often featuring refined classical proportions combined with early industrial mechanical ingenuity in silverwork.

These instruments were typically fabricated from sterling silver with internal brass mechanisms, wood pencil leads, and steel pen nibs.

Authentic pieces usually bear clear British hallmarks including a makers mark, a standard mark, a town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the early 19th century.

Display the item on a leather blotter or within a glass-topped cabinet to highlight its craftsmanship as a sculptural desk object.

Use a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish gently, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage mechanical components or exposed wood elements.
