Description

This delightful Victorian silver thimble was made by Henry Fowler and is dated Birmingham 1899. The ornate thimble with vacant cartouche surrounded by foliate scrolls. It is fitted in its original egg-shaped ormulu thimble case. The outer case chased all over with blossom flowers and fitted with a suspension chain. The side with a thumb-piece opening to reveal the original interior fitted with blue silk and crushed velvet. So often, the interior of these holders are missing. This is a beautiful complete example.

H.F for Henry Fowler.

Birmingham Assay Mark.

Lion Passant.

Date letter "z" for 1899.

Thimble height: 2cm / 0.6 inches.

Case Height: 2.5cm / 1 inch.

Width: 4cm / 1.4 inches.

Depth: 2cm / 1 inch.
