The Georgian style encompasses designs produced during the reigns of the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover, spanning from 1714 to 1830. It is characterised by classical symmetry, architectural proportions, and a synthesis of refined woodturning and cast brass components.

Traditional candlesticks of this genre typically combine dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut with cast brass fittings, nozzles, and weighted bases. Brass was favoured for its durability and fire resistance near the flame, while turned hardwoods provided structural warmth and decorative profile shaping.

Authentication involves examining construction methods, tool marks, and material ageing. Indicators include hand-cut threads, natural patination on the brass, shrinkage cracks in the timber, and construction joins typical of historical cabinet-making rather than modern industrial fabrication.

These pieces can be integrated into modern spaces by placing them on dining tables, sideboards, or mantelpieces to add vertical contrast and traditional texture. Pairing them with unadorned taper candles creates a balanced dialogue between historical craftsmanship and minimalist decor.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and excessive moisture to protect the timber and prevent brass tarnish. Light dusting with a dry, soft cloth is recommended, while chemical polishes should be used sparingly and kept away from wooden surfaces.
