Communion flagons have been used in Christian liturgical services for centuries to hold sacramental wine before it is poured into individual chalices during communion.

These items were typically constructed from base metals such as Britannia metal, brass, or copper, which were then heavily silver plated using electroplating techniques developed in the 19th century.

Authentication involves examining makers marks, hallmarks, weight, construction joints, and the natural wear patterns of the silver plating over the base metal.

These metal vessels can be displayed on sideboards, open shelving, or mantelpieces as sculptural decorative objects that add metallic sheen and historical character to a room.

Silver plated items should be cleaned sparingly with non-abrasive silver cloths, kept away from direct moisture, and stored in stable humidity environments to prevent tarnishing and plate wear.
