Edwardian silver frames typically feature neoclassical motifs, lighter proportions than their Victorian predecessors, and often incorporate smooth polished surfaces or delicate ribbon and reed borders.

These pieces usually comprise a sterling silver front panel mounted over a wooden core, commonly mahogany or oak, with a hinged strut back covered in fabric such as velvet or watered silk.

Authenticity is verified by checking for British hallmark stamps, which include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town assay mark, and the date letter corresponding to the specific year of production.

Placing a silver frame on a wooden surface creates a textural contrast, allowing the polished metal to reflect light while pairing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary spaces.

Silver frames should be cleaned gently with a non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the underlying organic materials or protective lacquers.
