Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Georgian style, spanning the reigns of the four King Georges (1714-1830), is characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated craftsmanship, and the integration of exotic veneers such as kingwood and mahogany, often featuring precise brass inlay and fitted interior compartments.

These luxury receptacles were typically constructed using a dense secondary softwood frame veneered in prized exotic hardwoods like kingwood, rosewood, or mahogany, complemented by solid brass hardware, velvet or silk linings, cut glass, and sterling silver accessories.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetail joints, the presence of original brass locks and hinges, the natural patination and oxidisation of the timber and silver, and the absence of modern machine-cut screws or synthetic glues.

Placed atop a period sideboard, desk, or low console table, such an object adds rich texture and historical contrast, functioning as a sophisticated focal point in a traditional or transitional interior scheme.

Preservation involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood, and storing silver in stable humidity conditions to minimise tarnishing.
