Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A flirting mirror is a small, portable hand mirror historically designed with a covertly angled or secondary glass, allowing the user to observe others discreetly in social settings without turning their head.

These pieces are typically crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, featuring a fitted glass mirror plate, a cast or stamped handle, and often fabric-backed or velvet-lined elements for protection.

Authenticity is verified by examining the silver hallmarks for assay office stamps, date letters, and maker marks, alongside noting the natural age-related patination, wear to the silver, and historical mirror glass oxidation.

It can be displayed as a decorative object on a dressing table tray, integrated into a tablescape on a coffee table book stack, or showcased within a glass cabinet among other small curiosities.

Preservation involves storing the piece in a low-humidity environment, handling it with clean cotton gloves to prevent skin oils from accelerating tarnish, and using specialised non-abrasive silver polish sparingly only when necessary.
