FAQs

Silver card cases gained popularity in the 19th and early 20th centuries as portable containers for visiting cards, which were essential for formal social etiquette during the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, often featuring intricate decorative techniques such as engine-turning, hand-engraving, and repousse work.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the assay office, silver standard, and year of manufacture, alongside makers marks and evidence of period craftsmanship.

Such pieces can be displayed on a decorative tray, within a glass-topped coffee table display, or on a bookshelf alongside other small curiosities to add a touch of historical interest.

Preservation involves storing silver in a tarnish-resistant environment, handling it with clean hands or cotton gloves to avoid skin oils, and cleaning it sparingly with a non-abrasive silver cloth when necessary.
