Trilogy rings, featuring three stones set side by side, gained immense popularity during the late 19th century. Often referred to as trinity rings, they traditionally symbolised the past, present, and future of a relationship, making them frequent choices for engagement or commitment.

Jewellery from this period was typically crafted from 18-carat yellow gold or silver-topped gold settings designed to enhance the brilliance of diamonds. Stones were hand-set using claw or collet settings, reflecting the artisanal craftsmanship standard before mass production.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic hand-cut gemstones, such as old mine-cut diamonds and cushion-cut sapphires, along with handmade settings that may show minor asymmetrical variations. Hallmarks stamped inside the shank provide assay office marks and date letters corresponding to the late 1800s.

Antique rings offer distinct character that contrasts effectively with modern minimalist bands or stacks cleanly alongside contemporary geometric jewellery. Their rich colour palettes and historical craftsmanship allow them to serve as focal points in daily wear.

Precious metals and natural gemstones require gentle cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemical ultrasonic cleaners which can damage historical settings or untreated stones. Regular inspection by a professional jeweller ensures that antique claws remain secure.
