Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chatelaine thimble case is a small, ornate container designed to house a sewing thimble, suspended from a decorative belt hook known as a chatelaine, which allowed women to carry essential household and sewing implements easily at their waist.

These cases were typically crafted from base metals with gilt finishes such as ormolu, solid silver, or plated metals, and frequently incorporated decorative embellishments including semi-precious stones like agate, velvet linings, and intricately engraved exterior patterns.

Authentic pieces from this era often feature British silver hallmarks indicating the assay office, such as Birmingham, alongside a date letter denoting the year of manufacture, paired with period-correct construction techniques like hand-cut hinges and hand-set stones.

These small objects can be displayed inside glass-fronted cabinets, upon specialised display stands on a bookshelf, or incorporated into a curated tablescape within a study or dressing room to highlight their historical craftsmanship.

Preservation involves storing pieces in low-humidity environments away from direct sunlight, handling them with cotton gloves to prevent skin oils from accelerating tarnishing, and avoiding abrasive metal polishes that can wear away thin gilt layers.
