FAQs

Silver-plated kettles on stands became popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods, utilised for serving hot water during formal tea ceremonies without needing to return to the kitchen.

These pieces were typically constructed from a base metal such as copper or nickel silver, which was then electroplated with a layer of fine silver using chemical processes pioneered in the 19th century.

Authentic pieces generally feature maker marks or date letters stamped into the base, alongside hand-chased or engraved decorative motifs characteristic of the period.

This item can be displayed as a focal point on a sideboard or within a glass-fronted cabinet, pairing polished metal textures with minimalist contemporary surroundings to create contrast.

Maintenance requires gentle cleaning with a specialised silver cloth or non-abrasive silver polish to avoid wearing away the thin electroplated layer over time.
