This antique Caucasian triple medallion Kazak rug originates from the 1880 period and follows a tribal style. Constructed from wool with a pile finish, the piece displays a rich red field contrasted by a dark navy blue border, accented with white, beige, and blue geometric motifs. Three large octagonal medallions run down the centre, accompanied by geometric star motifs and a tribal geometric border. The rug measures 215 cm high by 168 cm wide and 1 cm deep. Suitable for normal domestic use, the rug works well placed upon the floor in a study or library to add pattern and warmth to the interior scheme.

Caucasian Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region and are renowned for their bold geometric compositions, large-scale central medallions, and saturated natural dye palettes, often featuring rich reds, blues, and ivory accents.

These rugs were hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation, resulting in a thick, durable structure woven with symmetrical double knots.

Authentic pieces from the late 19th century exhibit characteristic abrash colour variations from vegetable dyes, soft age-appropriate wear, flexible wool foundations, and traditional geometric iconography distinct to regional village weavers.

A geometric Caucasian rug acts as an architectural focal point, pairing well with neutral upholstery in contemporary spaces, contrasting cleanly against mid-century timber furniture, or grounding dark wood in traditional interiors.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating beater bar, rotate the rug annually to ensure even wear, use a high-quality rug pad underneath, and arrange professional hand-washing by a specialist textile restorer when required.
