A beautiful antique Chelaberd rug from the Kazak region with the famous and striking ''Sunburst'' motif. This fantastic caucasian rug has a large amount of the hard to find and rare green dye, used in the central areas of the sunburst motifs and the guard rail minor border too. A great variety of reds, blues and off white natural dyes have been used to create a collectable and beautiful antique rug. Condition is good for its 150 years, with minimal wear in areas, and some corrosion to the brown dyes, typical of rugs from this period. Both ends have a few centimetres rewoven, as often these are the first areas to wear down. They have been done expertly and are in-keeping with the antique dyes and wool used in the late 19th century.
Rugs bearing this name come from the highland area of the Caucasus whose centre is the town of Kazak. Woven by semi-nomadic shepherds of the region. They use fabulous vegetable dyes and high quality hand spun wool from their own herd.
