We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French 19th-century fire fenders often incorporate ornate cast metalwork, intricate scrolling motifs, and gilt finishes that reflect the decorative arts movements of the period, such as the Second Empire or Napoleon III styles.

These pieces were typically crafted using cast bronze or brass, frequently enhanced with fire gilding or ormolu techniques. The adjustable mechanism relies on overlapping metal tracks or interlocking sliding bars to fit various hearth dimensions.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy construction, hand-chased surface detailing on the cast metal, period-appropriate fastener types, and natural signs of ageing or oxidation rather than uniform modern machine finishing.

An antique metal fender adds metallic warmth and classical texture to a hearth. It can ground a minimalist modern fireplace or complement a traditional living room scheme featuring layered textures and neutral tones.

Maintenance requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth. Chemical cleaners, abrasive polishes, and excessive moisture must be avoided to prevent stripping the delicate metallic gilding or surface patina.
