Description

A beautiful set of Norwegian solid sterling silver gilt and red enamelled salad servers. They are hallmarked with the Norwegian 925S standard mark along with the makers mark of Thune. I would date them to c1950-1960. They have been superbly designed and are in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. The enamel is perfect. They measures approx. 7 inches (17.8cm) long by 1.75 inches (4.6cm) wide and they have a combined weight of 94 grams. Very well made examples.

Declaration

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Mid-century Scandinavian silver design is characterised by minimalist modern forms combined with traditional craftsmanship, often enhanced by vibrant vitreous enamel or gold gilding.

These pieces are typically crafted from solid sterling silver, heavily plated or gilded with a layer of fine gold, and frequently decorated with applied vitreous enamel.

Authenticity is verified through makers marks, such as the Thune stamp, alongside standard silver purity hallmarks like 925s indicating sterling silver standard.

They serve as functional art pieces that bring refined metallic contrast and colour to contemporary dining tables, pairing well with both minimalist and maximalist table settings.

They must be washed by hand in warm soapy water using a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive dips or harsh silver polishes that can damage the delicate gilt layer and enamel.
