A salver is a flat tray used for serving food and drinks or presenting items, originating in the 17th century and becoming highly ornate during the Georgian and Victorian periods.

Salvers are traditionally crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked for purity, and often shaped using hand-raising or spinning techniques with applied decorative borders.

Authentic pieces are identified through clear hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, standard mark, and date letter, alongside natural patination and weight.

A polished silver salver can be used as a reflective base on a coffee table to display candles, glassware, or small decorative objects, adding a touch of metallic contrast.

Silver should be cleaned periodically with a specialist non-abrasive silver polish and soft cloth to prevent excessive tarnish, and stored in a dry, temperature-controlled environment.
