Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A Victorian cast iron fire grate is a heavy metal fixture designed to hold fuel such as coal or wood securely within a fireplace hearth during the 19th century.

These functional hearth items were predominantly manufactured from heavy cast iron, prized for its exceptional heat resistance and durability.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit the characteristic surface pitting, heavy weight, and manufacturing marks associated with 19th-century sand-casting techniques rather than modern fabrication.

A cast iron grate can be utilised as an architectural hearth focal point, left empty for textural contrast, or filled with birch logs or pillar candles for ambient display.

Preservation involves removing accumulated soot with a soft brush and applying specialised grate polish or natural oils to prevent oxidisation without damaging the metal.
