Game skewers were utilised in nineteenth-century dining to secure meats and poultry during roasting and presentation, often featuring decorative handles reflecting rural themes.

These items were typically forged or cast from sterling silver, featuring a flat or triangular blade and an ornate cast handle depicting animals or heraldic motifs.

Authentic pieces bear British hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside the lion passant denoting sterling standard silver.

Such pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes, or integrated into traditional tablescapes as decorative conversation pieces.

Preservation involves gentle cleaning with a specialist silver cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding abrasive polishes, and storing in a dry environment.
