We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

A vesta case is a small, portable container specifically designed to hold safety matches, popularised during the 19th and early 20th centuries due to the prevalence of smoking.

Traditional vesta cases were predominantly fashioned from sterling silver, often featuring hand-engraved surface patterns such as engine-turning or repousse work, and incorporated an integrated striker on the base.

Authentic pieces are identified by examining the metal hallmarks, which typically include a makers mark, assay office stamp, standard mark, and date letter indicating the exact year of manufacture.

These small items can be displayed as decorative curiosities on mantelpieces, inside glass-fronted cabinets, or styled atop coffee table books to add a layer of historical interest and tactile detail.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away desirable historical patina and delicate engravings.
