Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement, spanning the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, championed handmade craftsmanship, honest materials, and medieval revival designs, often moving away from industrial mass production to create functional items for worship with deep symbolic resonance.

Communion chalices are traditionally fashioned from solid sterling silver or base metals heavily gilded with gold on the interior bowl, known as the cup, to prevent wine from tarnishing the metal. They are typically constructed using a combination of hand-raising, spinning, and soldering techniques.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks stamped into the metal, which indicate the assay office, silver standard, makers mark, and date letter. Additionally, hand-hammered tool marks and traditional construction joints often point to genuine mid-century craftsmanship.

A vintage chalice can be displayed as a sculptural decorative object on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or open bookshelf to introduce historical depth and metallic sheen into a contemporary domestic space.

Sterling silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized, non-abrasive silver cloth to remove harmful tarnish while preserving the natural patina accumulated over decades. It must be stored in a dry, low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight.
