Mid-century jewellery, particularly from the 1950s, often features innovative metalwork, combination tones of gold and platinum, and geometric or floral motifs designed to maximise the brilliance of smaller stones.

Rings from this era frequently combined yellow gold for the shank with white gold or platinum settings around the diamonds to enhance their whiteness and perceived size.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate hallmarks, specific prong or illusion settings characteristic of the 1950s, and stones cut in styles consistent with the mid-20th century, such as early brilliant cuts.

A vintage gold engagement ring pairs well with simple, thin wedding bands in matching yellow or white gold to let the intricate historical detailing of the central setting stand out.

Regular professional checks of the claw settings are essential to ensure the stones remain secure, and cleaning should be done gently using warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemical ultrasonic cleaners on fragile historic mountings.
