This antique Quchan Kurdish rug originates from the Khorassan region of north-east Persia and dates to the year 1900. Produced in a Persian tribal style from all-wool construction, the textile displays a deep red and navy lattice grid filled with a central diamond pattern containing the wolf's mouth motif, set within stepped geometric borders. The piece includes minor wool fringes with expert stitching at each end alongside double-bound dark brown wool and black goat hair side cords. It has been hand-washed, de-dusted all over, and maintains an even pile, measuring 208 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. Suitable for a gentleman's library or similar traditional interior setting, this floor covering brings authentic tribal pattern and rich coloration to a room. Placed upon a study floor or beneath a reading table, the rug anchors the space while adding warmth underfoot through its heavy wool construction. The geometric design and protective motifs offer a striking visual centrepiece that complements antique furnishings and classic architectural details. Maintenance involves standard wool care such as gentle vacuuming without the beater bar to preserve the hand-knotted pile and side cords.

Quchan Kurdish rugs originate from the Khorasan province in north-eastern Persia, hand-woven by Kurdish tribal weavers. They display geometric diamond patterns, wool pile construction, and colour tones such as deep red, navy blue, and terracotta.

Traditional Kurdish rugs feature hand-spun local sheep wool for both the pile and the warp and weft foundation. The wool is coloured using plant and mineral dyes, resulting in colour consistency and long-term durability.

Authentic pieces display hand-knotted knotting on a soft wool foundation, often resulting in slightly irregular selvages and end borders. The back of the rug displays distinct knot structure identical to the front design, alongside natural colour variations known as abrash.

A patterned tribal rug grounds minimalist or contemporary living spaces by introducing visual texture and structure. Position it over hardwood flooring or layer it over plain natural fibre carpets such as sisal to highlight its geometric design.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting to avoid disturbing the hand-knotted pile. Blot spills immediately using clean water and mild detergent, and rotate the rug periodically to ensure uniform wear.
