This antique Tekke Turkman hand-knotted wool rug originates from around 1900 and represents traditional Turkmen tribal style. The rose red field displays seven rows of three repeating octagonal Tekke gol motifs, complemented by geometric borders and tasselled fringes at each end in tones of dark blue, cream, and brown. A soft pile and a soft handle define the textile surface, which shows a uniform texture across the central field and borders, terminating in knotted white fringe threads at the top and bottom edges. Measuring 186 cm high by 120 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep, the textile adapts to various floor spaces. Placement in a home today suits a gentleman's library, a study, or a reception room as a decorative floor covering. Walking paths or seating areas receive warmth from the wool construction and the rich red colour palette underfoot. Regular interior foot traffic or decorative placement against neutral flooring brings out the intricate geometric patterns and traditional tribal motifs. The versatile dimensions allow for positioning beside a desk, beneath a small reading table, or centrally within a modest room arrangement to anchor the interior scheme.

Tekke carpets were traditionally hand-woven by the nomadic Tekke tribe in Central Asia, characterized by deep red tones and repeating geometric octagonal motifs known as gols.

These rugs are hand-knotted predominantly using hand-spun wool for both the pile and warp/weft, dyed with natural plant and insect dyes to achieve rich crimson and terracotta shades.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical knots, a fine knot density, wool foundation, and distinct, quartered octagonal gols arranged in uniform vertical rows with intricate geometric border guards.

Place a Tekke rug as a rich, warm foundation in a room with neutral modern furniture, allowing the geometric pattern and deep red hues to ground minimalist or eclectic decor.

Vacuum gently using a suction-only attachment, rotate periodically to ensure even wear, address spills immediately with cold water, and clean professionally with specialist carpet conservators.
